Camera Caper Rules In Detail

How to play Camera Caper, alone, with friends and in teams.

Using Physical Cards

Camera Caper is an easy game to play but did you know it can be played in many ways to include many people.

In this blog post we will be sharing just a few of the most exciting and fun ways we play the photography challenge road trip game we call Camera Caper.

Before you set off take a laptop or tablet and be ready for editing on the road during your Camera Caper road trip. If you are playing competitively we suggest sharing the imagines using our hashtag so you can all see the challenges completed and your friends can check your progress.

CLASSIC CAPER (Single Player, Groups, 2+ Players)

Pick your final destination, this is where your Camera Caper road trip will end.

Then take a move card, this will determine how far and where you will go to your next stop along the way; once you reach your stop another move card can be drawn.

Take a challenge card, this is your photo challenge for the first leg of the trip, if you can’t do it ? Keep it until you can, but you must complete it by the end of the trip when you reach your destination.

If you draw a challenge card you have already had completed you can choose to keep it and repeat the challenge or put it to the back of the deck and draw again. (You can modify this to draw 3 cards at a time for more challenge)

At each stop you can draw a new card (or up to 3) until you reach your destination.

Don’t forget to share all your capers with us using the hashtag #cameracaper on Instagram & Twitter

Camera Caper Road Trip Move Card

COMPETITIVE CAPER (Groups, 2+ Players)

Pick your final destination, this is where your Camera Caper road trip will end.

Then take a move card, this will determine how far and where you will go to your next stop towards your destination; once you reach the stop, another move card can be drawn.

Take a challenge card, this is your photo challenge for the first leg of the trip, if you can’t do it ? Keep it until you can, but you must complete it by the end of the trip. If you draw a card you have already had you can choose to keep it and repeat the challenge or put it to the back of the deck and draw again. (You can modify this to draw 3 cards at a time for more challenge)

At each stop you can draw a new card until you reach your destination.

At the end of the trip completed challenges will be totaled up with the points shown on each card, for every challenge not completed points will be taken away. The photographer with the most points, wins (something you decide, maybe lunch or a cold beer / wine)

RACE CAPER (Groups, 2+ Teams, 4+ Players)

Play against several teams, each team has a move pack and a challenge pack. Each team WILL arrive at the final destination at separate times.

Pick your final destination, wisely, make sure you have enough time to sleep and rest between long stops if you are going long distances.

Each team takes a move card, this will determine how far and where your team will go to their next stop; once you reach the stop, another move card can be drawn.

Take 3 challenge cards before you set off, this is your photo challenge for the three legs (stops) of the trip, if you can’t do it ? Keep it until you can, but you must complete it by the end of the trip. After 3 stops another 3 cards must be drawn until your team reaches its final destination.

At the end of the trip completed challenges will be totaled up with the points shown on each card, for every challenge not completed points will be taken away. The photographer / team with the most points, wins (something you decide, maybe lunch or a cold beer / wine, losers do a forfeit but please be kind)

CITY CAPER (Single Player, Groups, 2+ Teams, 4+ Players)

Play alone, with groups or in teams, this City Caper is designed to play in in a timed fashion. This game is played without the Move Cards; only the Challenge Cards are used and can be either physical or in app eCaper Cards.

Choose the length of time you want to play until the challenges should be completed by, either 7, 12 or 24hrs is normally enough.

Pick a set number of cards, say deal out 10 cards per player as a suggestion for 7hrs of play for example, however you can be flexible here.

Start the challenges and report back at a certain time at a agreed location to see who has completed the challenges and who has cards left over, add the points up and subtract points from challenge cards left over.

The photographer with the most points wins.

WILD CARDS

WILD CARDS are placed in the physical game only and opened either inside the app or with your group.

If you have downloaded the Camera Caper app you can open your current Camera Caper and select the WILD CARD.  Your random challenge worth either 5 or 10 points and will be chosen for you. WILD CARDS have unique features when drawn inside the app, they could be something super local to where you are or a very limited time challenge.

If you do not have the app and are playing in a group ask your peers will set your challenge for you.  If you are traveling alone you should download the app and pick a card from there.

CHALLENGE CAPER (Groups, 2+ Players)

Challenge Caper is for those times when you already have a set road trip destination planned and maybe the game will pass the time while you travel.

This Camera Caper is great for all skill levels and played with any device.

Choose enough cards for the entire trip, we suggest 10 cards per 200 miles traveled, as long as there enough stops to complete them.

Start the challenges and report back in when you reach your final destination. See who completed the challenges and who has cards left over, add the points up and subtract points from challenge cards left over.

The photographer with the most points wins.

CLASSIC CAPER (Single Player, Groups, 2+ Players)

Classic Caper is for those times when you want to get somewhere but don’t care how you do it; and you want the ultimate challenge.

This Camera Caper is great for all skill levels and played with any device, however we recommend using a DSLR or Mirrorless camera of some sort.

The benefit of the app is you can make the Classic Caper as competitive or as easy as you like.

Choose your final destination, and if you are not there yet,  your start point or let the app find where you are.

Then select how many miles you cover between new challenges being created (and how many challenges you want to receive) by the app, if you are using physical cards you will be asked to draw cards and enter their pin number when required. You can also choose to draw the cards manually in app and just be alerted to when to draw them.

Choose which ePacks you want to use on your trip, maybe you want to use your physical cards only or if you don’t have them, buy and select ePacks (aka eCaper Cards) for this trip.

Then start your Camera Caper Road Trip Challenge, don’t forget to mark your challenges as you complete them, mark on the maps where you completed the challenge. Plus make notes like what camera you used, how you got the shot etc.

When you reach your destination the game will finish (or you can finish early) and the challenges not completed will be deducted from the challenges finished.

SPEED CAPER (Single Player, Groups, 2+ Players)

Speed Caper is for those times when you want to play over a period of time, so for example you ONLY want to do challenges over a set time like 8hrs. Options include anywhere between 4 to 72hrs. This game mode is great if you’re travelling a set path, or staying within a city or playing as a hosted event.

This Speed Camera Caper is great for all skill levels and played with any device.

The benefit of the app is you can make the Speed Caper as competitive or as easy as you like.

Choose the length of time you want to play over and any distance limits to stay within if you want. Plus choose if you want the app to draw you cards at set intervals automatically and how many challenges you receive.

Choose which ePacks (aka eCaper Cards) you want to use on your trip, maybe you want to use your physical cards only or if you don’t have them, buy and select ePacks for this type of Camera Caper. You may want to use both physical and ePacks which is easy to select.

Then start your Speed Caper Challenge, don’t forget to mark your challenges as you complete them, mark on the maps where you completed the challenge. Plus make notes like what camera you used, how you got the shot etc.

When you reach the end of your timer the game will finish (or you can finish early if you wish) and the challenges not completed will be deducted from the challenges finished.
